We took a week off, and we are so happy to be back! There is so much news to cover it is amazing! And it is literally changing every day right now. With the parks opening there is a lot of information about how that is going to happen, and what everyone needs to know about how it is all going to work. That is the big news obviously. We also talk about Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, The Taste of Food And Wine Festival, virtual queues, character interaction, and park reservations. We also talk about the Black Lives Matter movement and how it may affect Splash Mountain. Our opinion may surprise you.
Besides the fact that Disney World is reopening the other big news for Disney World is that Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party has been cancelled for all of 2020. The decision is based on the fact that Disney would not be able to do the fireworks show, the parade, or the stage show in front of the Castle. Those are three of the big events that happen at the party. There is also the issue of how do you handle the character meet and greets. That is something that they have removed from the daily park hours, and how could they do it safely during the party. Disney has started refunding the tickets for anyone who bought tickets for this years party. Nothing has been announced yet for the Christmas party.
There is also a debate going on right now about Splash Mountain. With the Black Lives Matter movement finally taking hold, there is a lot of discussion as to whether Splash Mountain should stay with the Song Of The South theme. Many companies are removing the offensive stereotype images (think Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben). So many people who ride the attraction have never seen the movie and don't know what it is about. They just enjoy the ride. There is a petition online to have Disney change the theme of the attraction. I have seen a lot of great ideas for a new theme. What do you think would make a great new attraction theme for Splash Mountain? Leave a comment below and let me know!
We hope you are doing well during this unusual time. We know that social distancing is hard for a lot of people (including us). Check-in on your friends and loved sons, and take care of each other! And if you can, spread a little pixie dust.
